The bloodshed in Birmingham continued Monday night when a woman was shot dead during an altercation on the city’s southwest side.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Keondra Ra’Shun Hollis.

Just before 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. When they arrived, they encountered distraught citizens who were telling them that a woman had been shot and was being taken by private vehicle to Princeton Baptist Medical Center.

Sgt. Monica Law said officers went to the hospital to check the status Hollis. The hospital was in the process of having the victim transferred to UAB Hospital. but she died before that move took place. She was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m.

Officers discovered the shooting took place in the 200 block of Third Avenue S.W., which is University Crossing apartment. The same complex was the scene of a fatal shooting just eight days ago.

Law said there had been a verbal altercation between multiple people throughout the day, and that is what led to the shooting.

No suspects are in custody, but Law said witnesses are cooperating with police and providing them with information.

Hollis is the city’s seventh homicide since Friday, and the second on Monday.

One person was killed Friday evening, and four people were killed in two incidents on Saturday. Earlier Monday, one man was killed and another injured at The Quest nightclub.

So far this year, 104 people have been slain in the city.

“There have been a number of incidents this weekend of shooting,’’ Law said. “People are lacking conflict resolution, which is very important, to be able to get a long in society without causing harm to other people.
