A 34-year-old Chester woman died of a gunshot fired from outside her apartment.
Chester police and Crozer paramedics were dispatched to a possible medical emergency at 1239 Curran St. at 9:36 p.m. Monday.
Police entered the apartment and observed a female laying on the living room who was unresponsive and bleeding from her head, Chester police said in a press release Tuesday evening.
Officers attended to the female, but were unable to locate a pulse. Paramedics did arrive on scene and pronounced the female deceased at 9:46 p.m. The victim has been identified as Shante Whitaker, but she was not believed to be the intended target, police said.
During the investigation, officers canvassed the apartment building and located what appeared to be a bullet hole in the same room on the wall near where the victim was found. A further check of the area revealed several spent shell casings in front of the apartment.
