The Maine State Police Department have identified the two men killed in Lewiston over the weekend.

Police say 30-year-old Mohammed Sheik of Auburn and 23-year-old Keyt Hussein were both shot to death.

On Sunday, just after 10:18 a.m., police were called to Knox Street where a person had died from a gunshot wound.

"I heard about six gunshots," one neighbor said. "There was a young man on the ground and blood on the ground. It was just scary seeing him there and they had him there for like four hours and they wouldn't cover him or nothing," the neighbor said.

Officials say despite rumors that the body was left uncovered for hours, body camera footage has revealed otherwise. Police say the body was covered 35 minutes after first responders arrived -- adding first responders must adhere to Protocol for the Investigations into deaths.

A second victim was later found and taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he later died. Officials have not clarified which victim was found where.

Sheik and Hussein were taken to a medical examiner where their deaths were ruled to be homicides.

Officials are calling the deaths an "isolated incident" though are still working to process the scene for additional evidence.

Maine's Total Coverage spoke with a woman who said Hussein was her brother. The family gathered on the porch of the apartment building at 50 Knox Street saying they were very upset and didn't answer any other questions about what might have precipitated the shooting.

Lewiston's Mayor Carl Sheline says the city needs to take immediate action following the shooting deaths.

"The two shooting deaths that happened on Sunday have shaken our community and threatened the sense of safety we have been striving for in Lewiston," Sheline said.

The mayor goes on to say he has requested city council hold a workshop with police to learn more about the incident, as well as ways officials can return a feeling of safety to Lewiston.

Lewiston City Council President Linda Scott tells 8 Investigates says she will be asking for an immediate meeting with the Chief of Police and City Administrator: "I want some answers, I want solutions. I want to know how we are addressing this."
